Potato salad and health benefits
Potato – 3 medium-sized
Chives – 1/4 cup very finely chopped
(You can also use celery or leeks, or cilantro instead of spring onions)
Mayonnaise – 1/2 cup (I used Kraft mayonnaise, a bottle)
Cream - 2 tbsp
Lemon juice – 1 tablespoon or more
Salt – to taste
Pepper – to taste
How I did it:
1. Boil potatoes until tender and cool completely. I cook them in pressure cooker for 2 whistles. Cut into small pieces and set aside.
2. Whip cream, mayonnaise and cheese with salt. Add lemon juice to this and mix well.
3. In a bowl, add the potatoes, mix whipped cream cheese, mayonnaise, onion and salt and pepper. Mix well without breaking the potatoes too.
The health benefits of potato include:
Weight gain:
Potatoes are mounds of carbohydrates and proteins contain very little. This makes it an ideal diet for those lean and thins who desperately want to gain weight. Vitamins such as vitamin C and B complex also help in proper absorption of this carbohydrate. That’s why we make an inevitable part of the diet of sumo wrestlers.
Digestion:
Since potatoes predominantly contain carbohydrates are easily digested and aid digestion. This property makes them a good diet for patients, babies and those who can not digest the food drive, but needs energy. But you must remember that consuming too much potato regularly can cause heartburn in the long term. Potatoes also contain lots of fiber or fiber, raw potatoes and cold more than warm or hot.
Skin Care:
Vitamin C and B complex and minerals like potassium, magnesium, phosphorus and zinc are good for the skin. Apart from that, pulp obtained from crushed raw potatoes, mixed with honey, can serve as an excellent skin and masks. This helps even curing pimples and spots on the skin. Again, this pulp, if applied externally on burns, provides rapid relief and rapid cure. The mashed potatoes, not even water in which potatoes are washed, are great to soften and cleanse the skin, especially around the elbows, back of the palms, etc.
Scurvy:
Vitamin C in potatoes, may help prevent this terrible deficiency disease caused by lack of vitamin C. It is characterized by the corners of the mouth cracked, spongy and bleeding gums, frequent viral infections like colds, etc.
Rheumatism:
Two aspects of this factor. Vitamins, calcium and magnesium in potatoes help provide relief in rheumatism. The water obtained from boiling potato gives relief in rheumatism. But because high-starch or carbohydrate content tends to increase body weight can have adverse effects on rheumatic people.
Inflammation:
Potato is very effective for inflammation, internal or external. Because it is soft, easy to digest and has a lot of vitamin C (very good anti-oxidant and repairs wears and tears), potassium and vitamin B6, among others, to relieve inflammation of the intestines and the system tract. It is a very good diet for those with ulcers in the mouth. Again, crushed raw potato can be applied to relieve external inflammation, burns, etc.
High blood pressure:
Since high blood pressure is due to a number of reasons, including diabetes, stress, indigestion, the nature of many different foods and such are cures. Pope can be used to relieve high blood pressure due to stress, indigestion etc. due to the abundance of vitamin C and B in it, but should be avoided if due to diabetes. The fiber present in it is very useful in lowering cholesterol and improves the functioning of insulin in the body, which helps decrease blood pressure, as there is a direct relationship between blood pressure and glucose level and blood insulin regulates the glucose level.
Brain function:
Proper brain function depends largely on the level of glucose, oxygen supply, members of the vitamin B complex and some hormones, amino acids and fatty acids as omega-3 fatty acids. Potatoes fit almost all of the above requirements. They are high in carbohydrates and therefore maintain the good level of glucose in the blood that does not let brain fatigue creep and keeps the brain active and alert. The following is the oxygen that is carried to the brain by hemoglobin in the blood and whose main constituent is iron. Potato contains too much iron and therefore helps to this function as well. The following is the turn of the vitamin B complex. Again, the potato is rich in vitamin B6 and contains traces of other members of this complex. It also contains some other elements such as phosphorus and zinc are good for the brain too.
Heart disease:
Addition of vitamins (B complex, C), minerals and fiber, potatoes also contain certain substances called carotenoids (lutein, zeaxanthin, etc.) that are beneficial for the heart and other internal organs. But again, increasing the level of glucose in the blood and consumption can cause obesity, which in turn can put much pressure on the heart, so is not recommended for the obese or diabetic.
Kidney Stones:
Kidney stones, also known as kidney stones are caused mainly by the high level of uric acid in blood. In such cases, high-protein should be avoided, especially animal protein such as meat, turkey, shrimp, sea fish, eggs, milk, etc, and spinach, banana oil, black beans and certain gram , which dramatically increase the level of uric acid in blood. Iron and calcium also help form the stone. The potato is rich in these two areas and normally does not seem appropriate from this point of view. But it is very rich in magnesium which resists the accumulation or deposit of calcium (calcification) in the kidney and other tissues, demonstrating beneficial for the treatment of kidney stones.
Diarrhea:
It is an excellent energy-rich diet for those suffering from diarrhea, it is very easy to digest and contains soft fiber. However, a more intake can cause diarrhea due to excessive ingestion of starch. Other Benefits and Precautions: The juice of the potato is a good treatment for burns, bruises, sprains, skin problems, ulcers, the effect of drugs, prostate cancer and the formation of the uterus and cysts or tumors. On the other hand, some care must also be taken while eating potatoes. Green potatoes are poisonous, and so are the potato leaves and fruits because they contain alkaloids such as solanine, chaconine and arsenic whose overdose can be fatal. Moreover, the glycemic index (in simple words, the energy content or sugar) of the potato is very high (above 80) and obesity is well, and those who are diabetic diet should avoid eating potatoes. If eaten, baked potatoes are better than raw or fried.
